Description

The Shinden made its maiden flight on August 3, 1945, at the Mushiroda airfield in Kyushu during the final stages of World War II and the Pacific War.

This aircraft had a very unique design, with its main wings positioned at the rear and what is typically called the horizontal tailplane placed at the front. The engine was located at the rear of the aircraft, and the propeller was attached facing backward.

This design, known as a "pusher configuration," is advantageous because, without a propeller at the nose, machine guns can be centered on the aircraft, improving accuracy. Furthermore, the smooth design lines of the aircraft allow for higher speeds.

The Shinden was developed to combat long-range bombers such as the B-29. However, the war ended on August 15, and the aircraft never had a chance to prove itself in combat.
