The F-15 Eagle is the primary fighter aircraft of the U.S. Air Force and is often referred to as the most powerful air superiority fighter.
In December 1969, the Air Force designated McDonnell Douglas to develop the next-generation air-superiority fighter, F-X, to succeed the F-4 Phantom II. The first unit made its maiden flight on July 27, 1972.
Despite being larger than the F-4, the F-15 was lighter due to the use of titanium alloys and composite materials. With a powerful engine and state-of-the-art fire control systems, the F-15 boasts exceptional flight and combat capabilities.
The F-15E Dual Role Fighter is an improved version of the F-15 Eagle designed to enhance ground attack capabilities. It is equipped with conformal tanks on both sides of the fuselage for long-range ground attacks and air superiority missions. These tanks have six weapon stations, greatly increasing the weapon loadout. Along with this, the fire control system has been significantly enhanced, not just for air-to-air, but also for air-to-ground capabilities.
Additionally, the F-15E is equipped with the LANTIRN system, significantly improving nighttime navigation and attack capabilities. This system uses infrared to navigate and attack, projecting daylight-like images onto a new wide-angle HUD and the rear seat's CRT, enabling safe and precise navigation and attacks.
