Scale … 1:48
Item no … JT86 (09086)
The P-40 series not only served the U.S. Army Air Forces but also played a key role as a primary fighter for the Allies in various battlefields of World War II. Although its performance wasn't top-tier, its excellent mass-production capability, ease of handling, and robustness made it excel in ground attack missions and bomber interception.
The P-40E, the initial mass-produced model with approximately 2,300 units produced, made its maiden flight in August 1941. While it didn't show performance improvements compared to the previous D model, its armor and armament were enhanced, increasing its practicality. At the onset of the war, the 24th Pursuit Group in the Philippines had 72 units of the E model. One of its units, the 17th Pursuit Squadron, shot down the Type 97 Fighter (Ki-27) and produced the U.S. Army's first ace in World War II.
