Description
The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7A Corsair II was developed as a carrier-based attack aircraft to succeed the A-4 Skyhawk. To reduce development time and costs, design concepts from the company's F-8 Crusader carrier-based fighter were applied, and some of its parts were also used. The A model was the initial production version and was deployed to combat units in September 1967. It was subsequently developed into the B, C, and E models, and the final model for the Navy rolled out in May 1971.
