The model replicates the appearance of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Type-A destroyer, Yukikaze, during "Operation Ten-Go".
In April of Showa 20 (1945), the Second Fleet was formed, consisting of the battleship Yamato, the light cruiser Yahagi, and eight destroyers. Yukikaze, along with her sister ships Isokaze and Hamakaze, joined this battle line.
On the afternoon of April 6th, the fleet departed from the Seto Inland Sea to assist Okinawa. This mission, named "Operation Ten-Go", did not have any air support, making the chances of survival extremely low. Despite engaging in desperate anti-aircraft combat with other vessels, history shows the tragic end that befell the Yamato. However, living up to its reputation as the "lucky ship", Yukikaze survived this operation and successfully returned to Kure.
